Comb overs and haircurlers in new American Hustle trailer

I know this is the kind of movie that wins awards, but you can’t help but stop for a second and chuckle at what made for some serious fashion in the late 70s and early 80s. David O. Russell’s American Hustle just released the new trailer and we’re getting bad comb overs (Christian Bale), Joe Pesci lookalikes (Jeremy Renner), haircurls for gerricurls (Cooper) and the wonderful Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence in various states of relative undress.

Is it just me or does this movie look a lot like Casino? Wait, is that Jeremy Renner or Joe Pesci?

American Hustle opens December 13th.

12 years after the release of Monsters Inc., the film’s much anticipated follow-up (a prequel in this case) is set to hit cinemas later this year. Monsters University sets the audience back before Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) become professional scarers to the time they first met; at Monsters University. Pixar hijinks ensue.

The original was a box office smash, earning in excess of $550million, and time will tell if this fun-looking prequel has the fur and the scare to do the same. Monsters University is set for release June 21st.

You may be wondering why this trailer has been posted here. Sure, this movie is going to be pretty average, but no matter how many bad things you, or I, or any five-star critic says about it, it will undoubtedly do well where it counts; at the box office.

Just as Grown Ups the 1st pulled in almost $300million at the bank, Grown Ups 2 is expected to fill up seats come the American summer. Once again starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Space and Kevin James, the sequel is an almost identical flick to the first (but as a small bonus, it is Rob Schneider-less). Bad jokes, cheesy one-liners, and a deer pissing on Adam Sandler’s face (that will probably be the best part of the movie). Also making appearances in the second caper; Shaquille O’Neal and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

It is also of note that all the people involved in the film, while deserving of a critical backhand, look to be having more fun making a crap movie than anything else. Good on ’em. Grown Ups 2 is set for release July 12, 2013.

I’ll probably watch this on the plane sometime…

This movie may not Suck

Rob Stefaniuk’s Suck may or may not be a good movie. On one hand, it is about vampires and I think the majority of viewers of screen both big and small, would like to collectively put a stake into the undead. It’s about a struggling rock n’ roll band discovering the secret to fame and fortune is indeed, becoming one. Blasé perhaps? But on the other hand, it boasts appearances from Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and Henry Rollins (and unfortunately Moby).

The trailer looks promising, but after the disaster that was Lesbian Vampire Killers and that awful, awful, awful Vampires Suck, the bar is set pretty low for vampire-themed horror-comedies and their kind. There does however, seem to be a little more substance behind Suck that the aforementioned failures, a distinctly more cultish aura that sometimes drives a small film to greater heights. Plus it looks like Malcolm McDowell is playing a rather badass vampire hunter in the film. That is a definite tick in the plus column.

Suck is out on DVD September 28 via Koch Entertainment.
