Roy Scheider, the actor most famous perhaps, for uttering the line “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” in the 1975 blockbuster Jaws, has passed away at the age of 75. Scheider passed away due to complications from a staph infection.
The actor, born in Little Rock, Arkansas, got his start in a 1963 horror flick, and bounced around before landing seminal roles in 1971- including his Oscar nominated performance in William Friedkin’s The French Connection. It wasn’t however, until 1975 when he took the role of Martin Brody in Steven Spielberg’s box office conquering Jaws, the movie that literally put the blockbuster on the map.
Scheider’s last roles, Iron Cross and Dark Honeymoon, are set for release sometime this year.
