Reports are coming in that Scarlett Johansson’s character in Iron Man 2, Natasha Romanoff (who in the graphic novel universe of Marvel is known as Russian spy Black Widow) may soon get her own feature.
ComingSoon.net reported that Marvel studio-head Kevin Feige confirmed a Black Widow movie is in development, but stated it will not happen until after the much anticipated Avengers movie is done.
Scarlett Johansson will play Natasha Romanoff in the Joss Whedon-directed Avengers alongside the superhero buffet of Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor).
While the thought of Scarlett Johansson flying solo in tight black lycra is eminently appealing, we look back a the memories of both Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry donning the same type of costume in Elektra and Catwoman respectively … and shudder in cinematic horror. A beautiful woman in sexy clothing with little else maketh not a good movie. But perhaps, if they surround ScarJo with a good supporting cast and a good script or made her a vampire or ask her to be Kate Beckinsale, then maybe Black Widow could break that trend.
